What is Bronze Birch Borer?
Bronze Birch Borer is a small, metallic-colored beetle that lays eggs on the bark of Birch trees. When the larvae hatch, they tunnel under the bark, damaging the cambium layer and cutting off the tree’s ability to transport water and nutrients. This slowly leads to branch dieback and, eventually, tree death.

Signs of an Infestation
Thinning Canopy – Upper branches start to die off - When the tree starts budding and leaves start appearing you may notice a lack of Green on the tips and/or browned leaves.
D-shaped Exit Holes – Small, D-shaped holes on the trunk from adult beetles emerging - This may also leave a rusty looking residue on the bark.
Raised Bark or Cracks – Larvae tunneling beneath the bark creates visible damage.
Increased Woodpecker Activity – Birds feeding on larvae can indicate an infestation.
